The most significant product group in the Hessian chemical industry is the pharmaceuticals group: in 2009, 44,3 percent of the industry’s total turnover was generated by products of this sector.

This high percentage share of pharmaceuticals production in the State of Hesse greatly distinguishes the production structure of the Hessian chemical industry from that of federal production structure. In Germany, only half of this (26 percent) is accounted for by the pharmaceutical sector.
